Never Ending Story

Posted by Nica at 1:19 AM 0 comments
I am blessed with a very responsible kid. She got  home a little after five and told me that Kuya Richard, the sub school service, scolded them for playing and making him wait 30 minutes. Then, she cleaned our room and swept it, too. I rewarded her with a movie, Spiderwick Chronicles, which she loved by the way.

After the movie I asked her if she wanted to watch Neverending Story. She looked at with a horrified face and said "Hindi sya mage-end?" Then she told me she has a lot of things to do. Fix her school stuff, prepare her uniform for tomorrow, and do her assignments. I told her we didn't have to watch the movie today. She was relieved. What an kid!

English Moment

Posted by Nica at 12:55 PM 0 comments
I noticed that my daughter doesn't speak English at home anymore. She used to and she tries when she was in a private school. I had to tell her yesterday to practice speaking English. I gave her the "I speak in English, you speak i English" rule.  So here's how it went:

Me: Gabby you should practice your English.

Gabby: Bakit? (Why?)

Me: Because you don't get to speak English at school.

Gabby: Nagsasalita naman ng English si teacher. (My teacher speaks English).

Me: Basta, you should practice it. Especially during conversations like this.

Gabby: Bakit mama, sa Enchanted Kingdom ba nag-iEnglish ba sila dun? (Do they speak English in Enchanted Kingdom?)

Now, you must be wondering why Enchanted Kingdom was mentioned. This is because I told her that I'd be bringing her to the amusement park on Saturday, provided that the plan with my friends push through.

Anyhow, she still speaks Tagalog and I still talk to her English.

Losing Patience

Posted by Nica at 3:13 AM 0 comments
Yesterday was one of those days when I lost my patience with Gabby. We woke up at 6am and found out that her skirt smells like shit because she peed on it twice and didn't soak it for washing. So I had to go with her and buy a skirt in the public market. Fortunately, the public market is just a few meters away from her school so we made it well ahead of the start of her class.

Since we woke up late, I had to bring her lunch. Truly, the condition of public schools and students here are deplorable but the teachers and students make do. We can either have lunch in the covered court or in the small canteen. I chose the small canteen.

As I was preparing her lunch, I noticed that Gabby is near peeing in her skirt. She stood in line but there were three students in front of her and she just couldn't contain her anymore and peed in her undies and skirt. I totally lost it! I have told her time and time again to pee in their classroom's CR before the lunch break.

I dragged Gabby back to her classroom and told her teacher that she would not be attending the afternoon class because she just peed in her skirt. The teacher assured me that she doesn't forbid the students from using the bathroom.

All the way to the terminal I was yapping at her, letting steam off under the heat of the midday sun. I cannot believe that my daughter did peed in her skirt thrice in a week. When I looked back at her, I saw her hair scattered all over the place. In my anger, I took her to the salon and had her hair cut.

I know that I need a lesson or two in anger management. But I am quite thankful that I did not hit her. I did apologize a few hours after and, to make up for the haircut, I cut mine, too. But I think I overdid it. Anyway, see the picture below.

And Gabby Scores....

My daughter is a constant source of joy and amusement to me. Last night, while she was fixing her things for school, we had the following conversation:

Me: Gabby, puede ba na pag nasa kwarto ka tahimik ka? (Would it be possible for you to keep quiet inside the room?) No shouting, singing too loud, no babbling, just quiet?

Gabby:  Bakit mama simbahan ba 'to? (Why mama, is this a church?) (Note: She used her most obnoxious voice)

I just laughed at her. Sometimes her witty remarks render me speechless. :)
